I thought all coursing, in what ever form, is baned? :hmm:

He was adament it was the way he said it was? :blink:

Can someone put me straight on this one, cheers. :victory:

There seems to be alot of confusion across the population. A gamey told me is was still ok to kill fox with dogs because you can still dig to them, therefore its ok to kill with lurchers. Someone told me yesterday the same as you Frank, that it depended upon the number of dogs for hare. And it seems the general population were not aware it included ANY dog, they presume it was only foxhounds.

:blink: Im confused again :icon_eek::laugh:

My brother reckons, its mainly aimed at the foxhounds and foxhunting. :hmm:

So, basicly, if i say, had permission from the farmer to course a hare or 2, apparently, i can, but, if i bring me mates and have as meet, its a different story? :blink:

Fecking ban, has all tits up. :rolleyes:

Dont know about ireland Frank but coursing in any form where the dog chases a live hare is completely banned. The farmer would also be liable.

Section 5: Hare coursing

9. Section 5 prohibits hare coursing events. Subsection (1) makes it an offence for a person to participate in, attend or knowingly facilitate a hare coursing event or to permit land which belongs to him to be used for a hare coursing event. Under subsection (2) when a dog participates in a hare coursing event an offence is committed by any person who enters the dog for the event, who permits the dog to be entered for the event or who controls or handles the dog in the course of or for the purposes of the event.

When where out beagling sometimes the farmer invites us on to his land to catch a hare that was wounded. Your still allowed to hunt it as normal if its wounded :hmm::icon_eek: Still very confusing all of this.

Basically, without a gun present, its illegal to hunt any mammal, with a dog, full stop. The exceptions are, the use of a terrier underground to bolt a fox to a waiting gun, NOT another dog, be if hound or lurcher or whatever. Or the use of two hounds to flush a fox/deer from cover, again , to a waiting gun/guns. The onus is on the guns, and hunters to prove the animal was shot, as soon as was reasonably practical. Dogs can be used to to "recover" a wounded animal, be it, fox , hare, or deer. Its also illegal to hunt any mammal, including rabbits and rats, anywhere , YOU DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION. Rabbits and rats can legally be hunted with as many dogs as you want, providing you have the landowners permission.

This is where people have been prosecuted under the hunting act, they werent coursing, they were rabbitting without permission.

I know of at least one coursing club, who are now "flushing" hares, to a waiting gun, who is stood at the far end of a field [for safety of course] with two greyhounds, which are muzzled, and its perfectly legal :victory: they really ought to get a new gunman though, the bugger never hits owt. :D
