Best Gun Lamp ?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I have been using a heath robinson affair to shoot at night for years, but now want to buy something more sophisticated, what would be the best set up these days ?

The technology available looks wonderful but what performs best in the field ?

Many thanks in advance for any replies.

What distance you looking at? The tactical torches seem to be best these days ,although some struggle with filters. I have a Deben tri star, although shit at first..I'm on my third one now, and all wiring problems have been sorted..but it was 130quid ,so depends what your looking to spend. The battery is the length of my little finger and the width is about half my little finger lol don't realise its in ur pocket half the time ,atb on the prowl

I have one of those cree led torches solarforce l2. Carry a spare battery (ones that look like AA's on steriods) and red filter. Batteries last 8hrs with none of these trailing wire packs. Got a pressure switch i attach with masking tape. Does the job and cost £40 inc 12v charger. If anything, unfiltered, its too bright. Oh, also got an ir bulb for my sony camera so i can use nightvision...

I use a logun gun lamp it came with my s-10 when I brought it, haven't ever used any filters on it but the white halogen bulb seems to do the job perfectly, I don't shoot enough at night to warrant using filters as they haven't got used to the white light yet...could be worth thinking about in the future if I started shooting nights more.

I use a tracer LedRay tactical 400. Comes with pressure switch, two rechargeables, recharger and a multitude of filters. Works a treat and you can vary the intensity of the bulb at the press of a button. Plus it comes in a box like a cordless power tool so it packs away neatly if you need.

If you want a cheap general purpose focusable and dimmable torch, then Tescos Online have a 120 lumen torch. Capable of throwing a tight beam to over 50 metres, or general flood to about 25... Takes 2 x AA batteries and can run for about 7 hours on them, just pick up a spare pack from the petrol station and you never run out of light. Run it off a set of rechargables and it is really cheap!

Hold in place with a standard scope mount and you have a decent little lamping system!

Thanks for all your replies, i have decided to go with the solarforce with pressure switch, the only thing that worries me, is i cant get one with a charger, does anyone know if the batteries are easily available ? Also will a 25 mil scope mount fit the torch ?

Thanks again for your advise all.

Where are you looking? I bought my whole bundle from ant-supplies.co.uk eBay would have em for sure. I may even have a spare 240v one you could have (my caravan is run on our 12v solar panels).

I was looking on ebay, best deal i could find didnt include charger, most of them were posting from China and Hong Kong.

Thats a very kind offer. I live on a narrowboat, so am in the same boat as you, pun intended :D

I'll continue my search, keep you posted.
