Phantom 631
Hi Barry, Having a custom scope would probably break the bank! Also the physics of light need to be understood, the bigger the objective (light gathering) lense is limited in 'usefull' size boils down to the amount of dialation of the users own eye has! It's pointless going over 56 or 60 mm's with a scope. There was an article in a magazine recently explaining the basics of scope height and it mentions the size of pupils etc Page 74 of Airgun World May 2012 issue. The Paragraph headed SCOPE. ghillies 209
not forgetting the internal tube has a limit to, its one of the arguements about the difference between a 30mm tube and a 25mm tube, bareing in mind some dubious peeps just stick a wider outer body on and say its a 30mm innerds.. but, if its after twighlight stuff no lights, big is better'ish..because theres bugger all about, but by day it becomes cumbersome. andm a 80mm on speccy built mounts will probably cost a lot or, yes you wont be able to zero the scope cuz its too hi on an air gn, not forgetting the higher the scope the further the better shooting range is, like a 4x20 is low and comes in really nice at rattng, a 4z32 sort id near too rabbiting 40-45 yards idealy max but still quite good on ratting, up to the 56mm and 60mm which are 20-60 plus yard useage.. but, it would intresting to see the climb before the first zero and how hi you'd be aiming inbetween to your far zero lol. on a 60mm scope i ot the nato ret, not many like it compaired to the mill dot version but theres that much climb at 10 yard is ridiculas, a foot diference is getting on for a quarter the over all ret ish lol..exsagerated but its there. and.. i think you have to buy mutiple scopes like 10 minimum 100 minimum or ts pay a lot out.. beyond that after i found the japanese corp they shut down, bought out by brand x company...havent found it yet. used to be 'hako' i think. open season 21
Hi Tony nice to see you back bud how was the weekend ??? i dont think i have that copy of AirGun world but i will have a look. I have been thinking to the questions of zorroing on such a large scope but to be honest i really dont think that an extra 20mm on the lens from a standard 60mm would make much difference to the zerroing of the scope but there again i might be wrong. It might be a case of such a scope size will have to be fitted to a fac to be able to zerro the rifle in at a longer distance something i dont have a the minuet. I think the weight might be a problem on such a scope. with good quality lenses i suspect the same would go for a camera lense the better the glass the better the image quality.and weight. Tony can you tell me if this physics light thing is in airgun world please. when i was at collage we did a Bit about light but not to deep. openseason Quote Link to post
