Just had my interview for my FAC grant....

Little did I know that the powers that be were really opposed to my SGC application last year, luckily my previous FEO saw sense and spent 2 days writing a massive report and basically backed me all the way. The report was obviously still there so all that paperwork was ready to go and nothing's happened since my SGC grant, so we didn't go over old ground.

The .22 rimfire was no problem, neither was the .308 - He asked about a .243 but I said I'd thought about it and made my mind up - He said that's fine, there won't be a problem, I've just got to get one of my permissions in writing and he'll pick it up on the way home tomorrow.

He explained that if someone has dramas with a gun it reflects on the whole force, and that's why they are careful with regards to checks, I knew that already but I think he was trying to get across that they aren't opposed to firearms, just those who shouldn't use them.

All in all a very nice bloke, he also said as far as he's concerned I know more about firearms than him because of my army service

So my limited experience of Lothian and borders is that the FEO's themselves are knowledgable and good to deal with
