Just so you know, mate, I wasnt doubting that you were just saying they were Minshaw.

There was someone in chat the other week who had a 1/2 bull 1/2 grey or 3/4 - 1/4 whatever it was..... anyway, he was claiming that was minshaw although it was just a bull X grey

There used to be page loads of pictures on this site all to do with minshaw dog's. It's just a shame that the breed is now fading out. I think there's still a few half crosses etc.. kicking around

if only we knew how Vic bred the dog's, the line could maybe be recreated :hmm::D

Two dogs out of the same litter turned out almost identical in size and shape 27/28 inchs in height aprox 70/ 80 pound in weight.Line bred minshaw dogs.

Dog number 1: started off on rabbits at about 8 months old caught around 100 rabbits at a year old. Took his 1st roe deer at 1 year old and a further 5 or 6 by 18 month old, gradually eased into hares at 1 year old killed about 20 hares by about 18 month old.

Dog number 2:started off a little later at 12 months old kills about 10 rabbits then kills mainly hares till about 18 months old.

Both dogs could kill a bag full of rabbits with ease and regulary did, both could kill hares good but dog number 2 excelled on hares and seemed to pick them up easier than dog number 1.

Both dogs could take a roe deer, but dog number 1 could take them with ease and dog number 2 always seemed to make harder work of them.

To sum it up dog number 1 excelled on deer and took them with ease but seemed to make a little harder work with hares.Dog number 2 excelled on hares but always seemed to make hard work of deer.

The only differance in the way these dogs ran where dog number 1 ran slightly to the side allowing his prey to see him, dog number 2 ran directly behind his prey so they couldnt see him.

The conclusion i came to was:

hares a harder to catch when they can see the dog from the side because they avoid the strike by turning a lot more, deer panic more when they see a dog from the side and make fatal mistakes.

hares are easier to catch when a dog runs directly behind them and carnt see the dog so unable to see the strike coming, deer dont panic as much when a dog runs directly behind them because they carnt see them and turn more making them a lot harder to catch.
