morton 5,369
Greyhounds bring in everything you do not want in a lurcher, ie thin skin poor coat bad feet no stamina poor nose and no brain. All the greyhound is good for is speed and size. Two of the best fox killing dogs ive seen,1 of them i had the fortune to own, happened to be ex track dogs, the dog took a while to come to terms with its fieldcraft,if it had been started from a pup it most likely would have fared better, excellent feet, adequate coat, could spot a runner at great distance, biddable and a real asset to the team. The dog did lack stamina. With all his good points i covered a Lurcher with him,the pups bar none all made the grade and with the cross the stamina issue was eradicated.I prefer lurcher to lurcher breeding, but, after a few generations the infusion of the right Grey will add more to mix than most other lurchers can, also its not always the fastest dogs that puts most in the bag,but a slow dog is a liability.
