Ferret Run/Pen?

Recommended Posts

Decided this summer to build a run/pen for the Ferrets. the general size will be roughly around 6 x 6 or perhaps slightly smaller.

bear with me please as I need to ask a few silly questions ;)

I know Ferrets can climb so I take it any sort of netting is out of the question?

would I need to net the whole floor to stop them digging out? I hopeing to build a network of tunnels for them to play in.

also any pictures or any other advice would be much apreciated ....................

if by network of tunnels you mean underground.. as i said in a previous post.. the problem with this idea, as fun and natural as it sounds, ferrets have an annoying habbit of hiding food not just in there nest boxes but anywhere they know is dark and safe.. they could leave it there and you would never know, they go back to get it and its gone rotten.. just seems more hassle than its worth to me... if you dont mean underground then i would just use paving slabs.. those 2x2 ones are so cheap this, aswell as making it impossible to dig, keeps there claws down enough.

my run has half inch mesh all the way round it held in place by heavy duty staples, tucked under the bottom of the frame and stapled..and doubled on the top because.. well i had some left and figured i might aswell..

I suggest some cover/shade, on my run i have the back, one side and about a foot or so on the top covered with overlapping fenceing and on the top i have the stuff that is usually on a shed roof to keep it waterproof, under that is a hammock and theres a hammock in the opposite corner.. so they have a choice of sunning themselves or shade+protection from rain if i have to pop out.. ill post a link to the other thread with the pictures on since i dont want to upload them again ..

edit: here it is http://www.thehuntin...g-a-ferret-run/ .. second post down scroll past the hutch pictures.. i built that run in an afternoon and it cost very little...its 6 x 4 and not tall enough for them to hurt themselves if they fall from climbing up the mesh (wich they do)..that was before i got the felt stuff

keeps them happy

hope that helps? or even just gave you some sort of idea on what you could do..
