another ferret question -- pet or worker

Recommended Posts

Yes..of course they can....remember a few years back...seen a lad & lass walking a ferret on lead......weeks later when out ferreting....seen this couple over the boundry fence..they where ferreting......this little Pet ferret was certainly putting the bunnies into the nets......lol......also some of the ferrets/poleys I used to breed went to pet homes..later on to be breed with other pet ferrets...some of these went to working homes....so 2/3 yrs later from being ' working stock'...these pet ferrets where in the field working their little cotton socks off..

I can only speak from personal experience , if you have a jill who has been an only jill for a few yrs ,its possible she may object to a new ferret, i had dozons of jills returned to me due to the constant fighting after they had been re homed, they seem less tollerent than hobs to change :o

But its not to say you cant find a friend for your ferret,it may work ,it may not, in an ideal world they would all live happily together but sadly sometimes its impossible, all you can do is try, ferrets who have lived happily together can also become balls off fury for no real apparent reason, if you manage to get a friend for your ferret keep it simple introduction wise, neautral area as theres a possibility your jill will become terratorial over her home :o

Also if the intro goes well be mindfull the scrapping may not start till later & dont push it thinking it will settle, have had ferrets here who have stopped eating & gone down fast due to stress of a new cage mate who picked on the resident ferret to the point where he slept outside in the run to avoid the new ferret.

You will have to play it by ear & take your time with intros, idont believe in chucking them in a cage & letting them get on with it :( its stressfull for them, the key is getting the ballance right ;)
