elevenses 3
HI All Can any of you please give me some advice on shooting with FAC rated air rifles over 22 rim fire? Currently I have permission to shoot on land for rabbits but it is bounded by roads on 2 sides and a railway on another and fields on another. Between the railway and the land is a 3 foot bank one of the roads is 30-40 feet higher than the land, the bank is steep about 1in2 I don’t feel I can shoot safely with .22 rim fire as the land on the side of the fields is very flat and about 1 mile away is a farm house ! So to my question I have never used a FAC air rifle so I don’t know the effective range and how much range for ricochet’s etc is needed so I do not know if I could safely shoot on the site. I am currently using a 410 and a non FAC air rifle but I would like a little extra range say 50m – 60m Any advise on effective range and safe ranges the general consensus on the land being approved for FAC air rifle etc would be a great help Thanks M PS I have read somewhere that using a lighter load in the 410 cartridge say a 7 on 2.5inch rather than a 5 or 6 with 3 inch shell has better results regarding pattern / effective range has anyone had any experience with this i worry about using a lighter load to get better range ?! matt_hooks 188
Shooting towards the road bank would be fine with a rimmy. An FAC air won't be any safer than a rimfire, you still need a good backstop. As for the .410, I guess the 2.5" cart gives the pellets a bit further to fly before they hit the forcing cone, so you might get less pellet damage and therefore better accuracy, but that's just conjecture. elevenses 3
Thanks Matt I have considered that it just feels wrong shooting towards a road if you know what I mean , as it is a busy road , maybe I am being over cautious ? I didn’t know if the air rifles had reduced range in comparison to the 22 so I could use it facing the field, as I have about a mile before I have to worry about people / livestock Quote Link to post
TWOTWOTHREE 152
Hi I know what your saying I doesn't feel nice pointing a gun In the direction of a potential accident,I have a stetch of the. M1 running along side of a bit of permission I have and it was cleared for my 223.suprrised me to be honest. It was the fact that the motorway is 30ft up a banking and considered safe for that reason.years later I've never shot in that direction bank or not,it maybe safe on paper and I'n the eyes of the feo but it's not something Im prepared to risk.Shit happens and shit is not something I want to up to the neck In, I think ya get the picture Atb 223 1 Quote Link to post

airbourne 128
they might pass it but may put on your ticket that you can not shoot in a prone postion that lieing down, Quote Link to post
richmcgin 32
You have to do what you feel comfortable with Elevenses, you are responsible for your bullet. I have to shoot a field that runns along the A39 like yours there is a bank even if it is only about 5` so i tend to wait till there is no traffic when using the 22lr, Shooting off sticks will help to improve the angle of shot and will go along way to reducing the risk of the bullet pinging all over the place.
