Thursday night lamping

Recommended Posts

After digging a fox in the afternoon ,the farmer commented on how many hed been hearing shouting at night so i agreed to a lamping session with Rabbit Controller off the site .Lambing is fast approaching and the numbers need addressing .Reverse route from what id normally do because of wind direction .Got to a maize stubble field on a bank and had a call .RC was using my .243 and i had the green filter on the lightforce .A fox came running down over the next field and made for a bridge over a small stream that as in flood mode .RC got on the bipod but he was positioned in a way that charlie would be very close before he saw him but too late now as charlie was fast approaching.Sure enough the fox got to with 10 yds before stoppng but RC was a bit slow in taking advantage nd off he went to get our wind properly .I shouted and he stopped at about 50 yds to receive a 100 grainer in the chest ,a dog fox .

Onwards into the next stubble field where hed come from and another squeak .RC was on my new quad sticks now as i called which was just as well .A pair of eyes appeared in the top hedge and then came belting in to reveal the smallest vixen ive ever seen with a bob tail too.She was carrying something which made her look even odder and as she approached ,her eyes were obscured totally by something flapping over them .Instead of stopping she ran past us at a fair rate of knots and i had to shout at her to get her to stop and i could see she had a duck firmly in her jaws .The wing of which had been covering her eyes .Had RC been on the bipod the shot would of been unsafe but the height allowed a shot at 103 paces to kill this fox .The duck didnt appear to be badly damaged so RC said he would eat it  not one to waste anything :victory:

Walked the rest of the farm with nothing seen.Down the lane on the way out i said to RC to have one last look out in the last field on the left and lo and behold a pair of eyes out in the middle.Parked up ,got the kit together and jumped the gate.Fox still there at maybe 250 yds .Walked in to get a guarranteed shot a bit closer and just as i lead dwon at 100 yds up it got and sauntered off downhill towards the flooded stream .I knew it had to cross a railway sleeper over a narrow bit so we hurried forward to intercept and it worked a treat .Fox was just the other side in some long grass when i shot it off high pod kneeling .

Left them all in the farmers yard as usual for his disposal and to show we take it seriously .This farm is on the edge of a town and im sure many foxes live under sheds here and prey on his lambs in season using the sheds as base .

Good night there FD well done .Can you tell me why i can see webbed feet poking out of the bag ?? is it to be used as bait or you still on your way home from Somerset with a Somerset Duck. LMAO :boogy:

You need to read again mate :icon_redface:

That's one way to bag a duck I suppose  How do you find the green filter? Have one here somewhere, I think I might start using filters again, not getting runners, but it might not hurt.

Very good mate as you can see eyes from a much greater distance than with other colours and body shapes too .
