norfolk born & bred me, so here goes -

i'm from the south of the county, so i'd probably be better placed to tell you about the good stuff round here. but anyways. get yourself to holkam & wells beach. it's absolutely stunning, the end of "shakespeare in love" was filmed there. when the tide is out, it's almost 2 miles to the sea. i take Gyp up there as often as i can, it's great to see him running about on the terrain he was designed for. one warning - if you're taking a dog, and planning to let it off the lead, you'd better muzzle it, as there's a lot of seals about on certain parts of the beach. and watch out you don't wander into the nudist area! from Wells harbour, drive down the little road by the side of the beach towards the holkam caravan site, park up at the end (don't forget to pay the carkpark, it's a bit of a stinger), and follow the sign for the dog section of the beach (over the wooded dunes). if you don't have a dog with you, park anywhere you can & get onto the beach! drive along the coast road & you'll probably find a carpark down a track.

you're not far off wisbech there, and the old part of the town is worth a look, a lot of period dramas are filmed there, because of the unspoilt rows of georgian townhouses. i believe some of the tv adaptation of David Copperfield was filmed there.

Castle Rising is pretty close to sandringham, and there's a beautiful old castle keep there.

if you want to get out for a good night on the piss, head for norwich. there's a few really nice little pubs, The Wildman on Bedford Street being one of my favourites. and it has a late licence :good:

i'd also recommend going to have a look at norwich cathedral. i'm not the religious type, but it's absolutely stunning. wander down the road a bit & you'll find the Adam & Eve pub, one of the oldest pubs in the country. good selection of ales there, and you can sit outside by the river. the castle museum is worth a look too (you can't miss it, it's on a huge mound in the middle of the city). avoid Prince of Wales road on a friday or saturday, it's a haven for beered-up twats & drunken tarts. best avoided unless you fancy a kicking for having a funny accent!

and don't forget, Sandringham Park itself. i don't know if it's open this time of year as the royal family spend their summers there, but if you can get in, do!

if i think of anything else, i'll add it later. PM me if you want any more info :D

[edit] christ, i should get a job at the tourist board!

this is starting to make me wonder why i'm moving out of the county at the end of May :hmm: ... oh yeah, cos the council are arseholes, so is the government, no f****r will let me have a house, and i can't work my dog without fear of being imprisoned & him being put down :censored:! leave the country or be homeless... hmm. i guess i'm gonna have to get round & see as much as i can before i'm hundreds of miles away!
