dave4178 5
Both myself, and my daughters boyfriend are new to ferreting, and are learning as we go. This season has been our first, and had some good days out, and some not so good ones. My question is, what are the problems with stop ends? Is it the ferret being caught between dead rabbit and dead end? Or rabbit running up to dead end with ferret killing it and maybe laying up? I have not had any problems with this yet, ferrets have always come out. I use collars also. Excuse my ignorance, but I would like to hear the thoughts of you experienced guys out there......Merry Xmas. 1 Quote Link to post
Ferret mad Dave 65
Ferret pinning the rabbit in and killing 1 Quote Link to post
Jamie m 668
Rabbit sticks it's back end out with the vulnerable head tight into the stop end. And ferret scratches and scratches away trying to turn the rabbit , or as you've said worst case dead rabbit blocking in the ferret , 1 Quote Link to post
Guest cookiemonsterandmerlin
Most problems accurring from a team of ferrets working a warren a ferrets pins one into a stop end . While the other ferrets work another rabbit into the same stop end so you end up with a ferret sandwich , Now what happens is the rabbit blocking the ferret pushs it side out to prevent the other ferret climbing over now the first ferret turns and kills the rabbit it then goes into rigomortice cutting the air supply to first ferret not good news as if the fert is not able to work a air supply then game over in the worst case very very rare. But I once had it happen it was in a tangle of old dutch elms when we broke though the poor of fert was gasping for air he was never the same and never worked again.
