Can someone please explain what 'bump' means when put in a thread.

As new posts appear on other threads, your thread drops down the page, "Bump" just means you're nudging it back up with a new post mate.

FCS! A run of POSTS is known as a THREAD. Thus this, my Post is adding to this Thread.

 

As Strong Stuff explained, perfectly clearly, each new Post will drive earlier Threads down the board till they get pushed back to an earlier page and will become as good as lost.

 

Thus, if someone wishes to bring a given Thread back to the attention of the masses, they may go back to it and Post the word, " Bump ". Thus 'Bumping' the Thread back to the top of the first page where it may catch readers eyes again and attract further consideration and comment.

 

That should be clear already. I've really just come in here to add that, in USA, people do the same thing, only they tend to write, " TTT ". That means To The Top. Thus driving that forgotten Thread back To The Top of the main page of the Board.
