Beef 2
I am going to make a cage trap next time home and wondered which you guys thought was best. A couple of years ago I made a ladder trap and had NO success. There were hoods in it but they got out. I had clipped the decoy and one day I sat away from the trap to watch it and I could see it looking up at the ladder and trying to flutter up to it. In the end I closed off most of the ladder and thought that this time I would go for the vertical funnel. Thoughts please. Had 19 magpies so far and 6 hoods so a good start to the season. I have an old guy who helps out and he has three larsen out and another farmer with a couple. Just imagine if everyone on here used even two larsens. What a difference we could make to those murderers. OK so everyone doesn't see it this way but they probably haven't seen the hoodies at the tail end of a ewe when the lamb is being born or seen a lamb with it's tongue ripped out. Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Couldn't agree more, about the Larsen's, Beef. Surely most of us can get one and put it to use? I know a lot of us have, but plenty sneak by with their heads down. Regards the Hoods getting out; That's strange. One of the lads on here made one and had great sucsess amongst them. No reported poppers. I wonder; Where did ye get ye plans and what were they? If ye go back to the actual Trapping Board and look up, above the pinned stuff, there's a Referance sub board and I believe it's all been done to death in there. Take a look and see if ye can spot any clues. maybe? Quote Link to post
greenman 221
try running a strip of chicken wire about a foot deep either side of the ladder hanging down inside the trap and twist it together at the ends. you can pinch it in a bit as a baffle this still lets the birds drop in but prevents them from flying back out. i have used this and had success for both magpies and carrion crows. hope this helps cheers 1979keeper Quote Link to post
Beef 2
cheers gents. I suppose my ladder trap complied with most of the suggestions on here but I will try the wire fringe down inside the ladder. I think that this time I will go for a vertical funnel for a start then if that isnt successful I will do a conversion and so have both options. Thanks anyway. Beef Quote Link to post
