Well HBG, action lamping shots are the holy grail of photos. Theres only one thing that is harder and thats Deer Coursing photos. Problem you face with lamping pics is the lens wont focus fast enough for action pics, and, if by a minor miracle it does focus, the action is 95% of the time too far away. All i will say is good luck!

Ive been trying for about 22 years now and i've only just started to get some average ones. I wish you well, but don't build your hopes up too high matey.... :victory: JD

Well, don't let my poor results put you off. But, if you want to have a go you need to manually focus the lens at a predetermined point then use a high F value, then the highest power your external flash has. Then pray. lol. I'm just being realistic matey......

I am with J Darcy on this. It is a challenge and one I have dismissed even at dusk or dawn.

If you are serious about this you will need to be pretty good at panning the dogs in daylight let alone in the dark.

A powerful enough flash will also cost a few quid but the best value to power would probably be a Nissin 622 at £120 or the more powerful 866 at £200 the later being the most powerful speedlight on the market I think. Recycle times are 3.5 secs for both so not quick. The Canon 580exii might be slightly quicker but it is also over £300 and not as powerful.

I would also suggest you have your permission sorted and signed and even inform the police because I can imagine a few UFO sightings being called in if you are running near any roads or buildings using a flash every 3-4 secs.

Good luck and I look forward to seeing some shots.
