HBG 350
I think it is illegal to Catch rabbits and release them elsewhere, be carefully what you openly discuss on a forum! No it's not.. It's only illegal to capture and release an invasive species like the grey squirrel & mink.. This topic has been done lots of times and had input from guys who know the relevant legislation inside out.. Is a rabbit not an invasive species and a pest It's classed as a plague species so it's deffo a pest. It's also been here that long (since Roman times at least) I guess it isn't classed as an invasive species. If something isn't specifically legislated against, then it remains legal and as far as anybody could make out there's no legislation which prohibits the release of a captured rabbit, fox or any other native British mammal. releasing it where you caught/trapped it maybe but whats the laws on transporting a wild animal??? tegater 789
I dont necessarily agree with it but it goes on, and I know a few sporting farms around me that are doing it. That is, the landowner is doing it! They want rabbits for sport, and owning 5-8000 acres of land, I don't see an issue. Even if they leave the land, the surrounding areas are just moorland and rushes. One of the farms I control corvids on, will not even allow me to take rabbits and hares, because of their sporting value. There is a big difference in doing this up north in the hills, were a big population is never going to build up, and doing it in other parts of the country were serious damage will be caused. There are also plenty of gundog trainers that do it, although they usually drop them into enclosed training areas. Quote Link to post
jason9090 11
provided that no "unnecessary suffering" is caused to the animal in the course of transportation theres no law proventing relocating rabbits aslong as they arent domesticated there classed as a british animal were you from mate Quote Link to post
