Out with the lamp last night same place as the brace from high seat .Wife was lamping with the red filter this time as id heard someone else had been round lately with no success .Did most of the ground seeing only deer and a badger so decided to stand in the centre of a big field and call .The wife saw a fox a long way away that looked like it was coming in but on the red its a job to say at a distance .Well she kept it just beneath its legs and sure enough he was coming fast from maybe 200 yds over three fields.We lost sight as it neared a hedge and i can only think there must have been netting up as he didnt come through as expected .I wondered if the cause was lost as there was no sign for a good few minutes so the wife continued scanning about .She suddenly shouted out and turning i was just in time to see charlie running away behind us no more than ten yds away .the closeness scared her a bit even though shes seen loads on the lamp on the white light ,lol.I shouted stopping matey at about 60 yds and the rest was a formality off sticks.A good big dog fox ,big enough to weigh which i did this morning and went 25.2 on the scales .Certainly some foxes about this year and big too .
