retrieving advice needed

Recommended Posts

im having trouble getting my lurcher to retrieve his catches. he will retrieve toys, balls etc every time no problem but in the field he will just stay and hold his catch and wait for me to come over. if i call him back he just leaves his catch where he caught it and comes back to me.

i use "fetch it" command with the dog to bring balls, toys back so i have tried this with his catches but he just goes back to it and starts crunching it to death.

any advise welcome :victory:

that crunching and biting its doing with the rabbit, it should be doing with you on a tug item, if a dog doesn't bite normally in its day to day interactions then it NEEDS to bite, getting the bite out of any dog is a way of resolving its fears, think about a nervous dog its bite is just under the surface waiting for triggers to let it out, hence the term fear biter,

its the same with your dog it needs the biting and crunching to run energy to ground, a dog grounds its energy through its mouth, and thats what happening to the rabbit its been used as a chew item when your dog gets it,

the dog gets stimulated by sight of rabbit and has to bring that charge back again to neutral through chasing catching and biting,,

lose the ball , think more tug items, play tug but let the dog win everytime and have her bringing back the item to resume play,,
