I'd start by asking the local firearms officer what the requirements are up there  .

If you are applying for a rifle for the first time it could be a little tricky to go from zero to full bore rifle owner (with a variation for expanding ammo) without having someone experienced who can vouch and mentor for you. If you do then it will be a case of getting your own permission, passing the security inspection, being granted an FAC (probably with a conditional variation that you only use the weapon when accompanied by this chap) learning the ropes and then getting them to vouch for your safety / experience (in writing) to the fuzz... then hopefully you will be your own man. With everything getting so silly you may need to record a diary / create a portfolio (with pics) to proove your proficiency.

The best way to get on the rung if you don't have anyone you know who can help you is to join a local rifle club. Once you have done a few months 'getting to know you' they should willingly countersign your FAC app and you can go on from there... maybe see if you can invite yourself along with some of the lads from the club and take it from there.

Probably the quickest option would be to go on a DSC course and get a Level one certificate!

Good luck bud :victory:

Lurcher it all depends on your experience with firearms and if you have access to deer stalking.

If you can show good reason to hold the FAC then they have to show good reason to refuse the certificate and if you have no serious criminal conviction's then the process should only take 3 months

If you have written permission include that in your application but if it is a verbal agreement inform the farmer that the police will call into to see him.As you don't want to upset the farmer with an unexpected call from the boys in blue

As I said it depends on the individual's experience with firearms and if they consider you to be trust worthy enough to be granted a FAC.

If you have any mates with firearms ask them to take you through the application process and help fill in the form as the form process can stump a few and certain wording put in the proper place can help.

You could also do the DSC1 prior or during the application process.

Best of luck :victory:
