jamie g 17
havent been shooting as much lately with my dad being ill. anyway he was due to go in for a stem cell transplant. so he said lets go out for a couple of hours on the weekend before he go's into hospital on the monday. we popped to a local shoot 5 mins up the road only acres. but the two crop fields have been cut so i said im sure we will get a fox or two in the bag. we took the m595 17 fireball loaded up with some 20 grain vmax. pulled into a grass field next to the cut ones. and right away lamp on 4 sets of eyes looking back. tricky thing about this little shoot is the ground is very flat in places so you have to know where to park up to get into postion for safe shots. one come down the fenceline of the crop field but then stopped to look for mice. he was going away then. but kept stopping so i put a 20 vmax into the back of his head at 145 yards and down he went. we then had a look over in a different field but the fox was working round on us and not a safe shot. we went into the crop field and see two foxes at the bottom of a brook. one went into the bushes and the other gave it legs across the field. ive seen this one before and he is very spooky like someone has shot at him before. back into the grass field to try cut him off but know look he was off over the back of the permission and long gone. al of a sudden my dad flicked the lamp round to see a fox had come up the fenceline to sniff the other fox i had shot. he walked away i gave a little call. he looked round and had the 20 vmax in the front of his chest and down he went 155 yards. we said we would call it a night so i jumped the fence got the foxes and come back to jeep. said to the old man i would put them in a thick bush just at end of the field. dropped them off and on way back to the jeep it looked like old spooky dog fox had come back !! not so worried after all then ! we got back to jeep quick and i loaded up he was a good distance away sat there.i ranged him and he was 175 yards. put the crosshair on the top of his chest and down he sunk 3 foxes down in the space of 1 hour 20 mins and off we went home. next night i went shooting with my cousin over some permission by the m5 motorway. this ground holds some lovely roe which i see most the time we go out on the fields feeding. lovely to see them. but we where there for mr fox. missed one -_- and shot one 30 mins later with the 22/250 well resting on a fencepost. only 90 yards away if that. week later over a friends in hereford shooting. and shot a fox with jordangs 6 br who is a member on here. good night in all. hopefully back out soon with some friends, and my old man when he has recovered. the little 17 is the 1st gun i reach for at the moment. its so handy on the little flat pockets of ground over the north side of worcester. i keep the 22/250 when over hereford and on my main permission on the worcester/ herefordshire border. off out to zero the new 270 next week. and might take it out for a spot of foxing after Quote Link to post
