Just thought I'd let you know I took the day off today and took my boys (Nick 16 and Jake, 10) out for a tilt at the woodies with the shotguns today. Hide and deeks set up about 11am, 2nd son set up as gundog and Nick with my spare Hilton Century. TBH, despite it being incredibly quiet on the avian front, we had a good time. Chatting, enjoying the sunshine and each others company and enjoying the couple of pigeon that came out to be shot (for lunch, marinaded and fried). Actually Nick has earned the title 'Cap'n Safety'. Down to the only clear and easy shot he had after a 3 hour wait he missed due to leaving the safety on! Roll on winter rape, now that things have slowed so much in the post-harvest lull. A good day and good fun though, despite the numbers. It was really nice to enjoy some game cooked so fresh and al fresco; bonus being that the lads did the breasting and cooking - nice!
