jacob 28
with so many dogs being stolen lately, would you consider micro chipping your dogs ,or do you think its a waste of time?
martin 332
I will be having my JRT pup(10wks old) done. She may not get stolen, but,if she was lost and someone found her, there's a good chance of getting her back. Not sure you would get her back if she was stolen though, unless they got fed up and dumped her.On balance,I think it is worth it. Tallyho 181
i dont think it will suit some people, as you know, some dogs do get a few nicks now and then and say thoes dogs were stolen, or got out, and were later found, taken to vet to be checked, next minit the vet could be on the phone to rspca, before you know it the rspca is banging on your door, and at the end of it you still might not get your dog back, i think it might be more trouble than its worth to some people to have them chipped
Strong Stuff 2,171
Nothing is 100% either, it isn't the hardest thing in the world to remove a chip from a stolen dog Then to have a dog re chipped with different details is easy enough. Like any Security measure, it's just a deterrent I suppose.
Guest Ditch_Shitter
I've had all mine chipped, as a matter of course, since it came out. Based simply on the fact that I take full responsability for my Dogs. Thus I sold a terrier pup to a young couple once. Twenty four hours later I had the Dog Warden on the phone to me. 'My' pup had been found and was awaiting collection from the local vet. So that worked. Of course, I pointed out I'd sold it the day before and the address couldn't have been changed quite that quickly. Turns out the Dog had done a runner as soon as they put it on the floor. They got it back and that's the last I heard. But then there's the potential downsides; 'Chip Migration' is legendary. Almost a god given excuse for those with an agenda to claim they did scan your lurker, bull 'n terrier, working terrier - a swift once over at the back of the neck. Found no chip so killed it. Chip obviously being, as they'd know full well, half way down it's front leg by then. I also read, just recently, that they've found almost 100% of these chips cause a tumour at their site. Probably true then. But then, I suppose, there's tumours and there's tumours. I've seen enough Dry Fed Dogs shrivell up and die rotten with cancer at half their life expectancy. Can't say I've noticed Chipped ones keeling over left, right and centre though. Newest thing is a Tracking Chip. This is what " Bird Flu's " all about. Read about this a few years ago. Sounds a cracking idea, on the face of it. Much the same as the Chips now used, only it transmits a signal. So, ye Dog gets chored, they check their screen and know which room at that slum council block he's holed up in. That gives then reason to kick the door in and round up both your Dog and a load of smack too! Trouble is, they've developed that idea into putting a Chip in all of us. Know where we're going. They want to do it under the guise of a " Vaccine ". Hence the " Bird Flu Pandemic " idea. Two more things; With the governmental love of Chips with everything, farm stock's next - already is, in US. Can't help but smiling at the thought of ye reporting ye Dog missing and them looking at their screen. And there he is; A red dot. Rushing around in a field, chasing a herd of wooley backed yellow dots Oh calamity! Finally; I do things my own way now. I take responsability for my Dogs. Don't let them roam and house them in doors. Anyone wanting to nick a Dog would be better off trying up the road there, where the household Dog's convieniantly available. Sako.243 1
I have all three of my dogs done. IMO:- i think its a great idea as a mate of mine got a spaniel stolen as the thiefs cut the wire in his run and nicked the dog. . The guy and the police went down to the thiefs house (CARAVAN) and asked for his dog back, the police said they had no way of proving it so the guy ended up keeping the dog Police said that if he had it chipped he could have got it back. The caravan gang then f***ed off later that week never to be seen again.
countrymaid 2
with so many dogs being stolen lately, would you consider micro chipping your dogs ,or do you think its a waste of time? There was a company at crufts that was campaingning to get more vets/dog wardens/kennels/groomers to routinely scan all dogs and check the number and the owner tally with each other as there are too many dogs being stolen. None of my dogs have ever had there identities check to see if i own them. I chip dogs/cats for a living and i routinely scan anything i find even accident vicitems. Not found a chipped fox yet but i reckon some do gooder will slip up soon.

Just open that outside kennel and help yeself. Chip or no chip. My whippet i imported from sweden has a chip that has moved, it was implanted by a vet in sweden in her neck. When i got Sally she started to nibble her elbow and when i had a feel i thought it was a thorn but when i got my scanner out i relised it was the chip. I was worried that if the chip was to come out when we was over seas showing or coursing we wouldent be able to gain entry back into the UK and Sally may have to go into Quarantine. When i took her to my vet he said he would simply cut a small hole and ease the chip out and then re insert it back in the neck, i was horrified to see how easy it was to remove a chip if you had a scanner and a scalple
Strong Stuff 2,171
how is it a deterrent? does the dog carry a sign around its neck saying "im chipped"? Guest Lurcherbitch
Yep i would say get your dog chipped. I always scan dogs that come into me. Although as i have said befor, Be aware that it is not the dog you own from the id its the chip . So any low down could just give you the chip back and keep the dog. I was f*****g fuming when i found this out. But i would still recomend it as if it was only lost and picked up by me, other recues, vet ect you will more than likely get it back . towzer 3
ditch are you saying that dry fed dogs are more likely to die riddled with cancer?
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Based on personal experiance? The experiances of several friends? My studies of the overall subject on the net? The opinion of an experianced vet? Half a century around Dogs? Damn right that's what I'm saying.
