nice bit of ferretin

Recommended Posts

Well my foots not fixed yet but I desperatly needed some ferret food so asked me dad if he fancied a look out... figured I'd get the 2 adults out with the dog a couple times before I get the kits workin (next month i would think) so this seemed to kill a few birds as they say.

got to the farm about 10ish and straight away there was a mixy rabbit infront of the pick up so I walked up to it and put it out its misery and threw it for the dog to have a play with while i got sorted..this is the first ever mixy rabbit ive seen on this farm and its my busiest best farm for shooting and ferreting.... so not a good sign...

once sorted got the dog on the go and hobbled to the first set.. this is only his second time out so even though he didnt look interested in the warren we were at I thought id double check and threw both ferrets down... He was right.. nothing! I was happy due to the fact that he didnt false mark it!..

so we moved on and the dog was definatly keen on this warren so we netted up and put the ferrets down... one ferret came back up the other didnt... so me dad noticed the dog marking a small 4 holer warren so he put the ferret that came back up down there... I moved over to that small warren as i could sit in the middle and wait (cos' of my foot) and heard the lovley sound of banging underground...but then up popped the ferret...bushy tailed so obviously a fight went on.. we put him back down the large warrens and he came straight back up.. whilest the other was still down! I noticed his collar was off .. we located it back to the 4 holer and the dog was going mental digging and trying to get into the holes! i figured that rabbits dead right next to the collar.... we dug 3ft down to the collar and the dog is still going mad... i put my hand down to feel around for the rabbit and it ran straight past me!.... sent the ferret down and within 10 seconds the rabbit jumped out the hole and my dog is there to hold it while i struggle to get up!...... we then decide the other ferrets had his meal and time to get him.. we start digging and get about 1ft down and just as my dads about to throw the shovel back in for another load his head squeezes out a small whole underground.. luky!! we get him out and the dog finishes dig for us and we get the rabbit... eyes missing of course...

after that my foot was killing so we called it a day, 3 rabbits (2 worked for) and 2 digs .... just glad the dog is on the ball on only his second time out! cant wait till the coming weeks to get the younguns workin!
