Hi ive an 8 month old lurcher pup (my first). Ive had him since 8 weeks and in my opinion is coming along ok. General obediance is pretty good and hes stock broken. At the moment hes had 2 rabbits and a pheastant (not desirable for me because my permision is on keepered land but im happy i know how to rectify the problem myself). Im lucky in the fact i have a small padock to exersise the pup on (aswell as the usual walks and what not). The 2 rabbits hes had have been off this little padock when i was not not there and some one else had let him out for a wee or not watching him properly because i was busy doing other jobs but in all occasions he retrieved the rabbits/pheastant to the person he was out with. The only problem is they were dead and in the case of the pheasant it was in abit of a mess. Is there any way i can try to encourage him to be abit more soft mouthed. I know hes a pup but if its possable id rather try to get rid of this habit now rather than in the future. Im not sure if its something ive encouraged or what ever because i let him run around with the dead rabbits for abit because i didnt think it would be wise to "rob" him. Thanks for your advise.
