No shes 6 months now, ye I supose you have a point but the guy who I got her of said I should take her out and let her see rabbits and get used to the lamp? I didnt know if it was good or bad but thanks for the advice, by short retriving do you mean like retriving in the kennel over doing it in a feild? And whats the best thing for her to retrive I use a small rat shaped toy should I be using somthing differnt? Oh and this morning when I walked her I sat her down in the feild and told her stay and took 60 steps back and she stayed in the same place!

She becoming a real gem for deffinate!!

Thanks Moll

Personally i don't take mine out with the lamp till they are old enough to actually work it, then if you get the chance of an easy slip you can take it without worry, she will soon pick up how to follow the beam etc without doing it prior. If you do want her to get used to the beam, take her fav (biggish) toy out in a field, lamp it and walk up to it. Do that a few times then lamp it and release her from a distance away, this would be a good point to show her retrieving whilst lamping.

Short retrieving meant.....she was not bringing it back all the way, dropping it short of you?

Brilliant she is staying whilst you walk away, a very handy thing to teach a dog to do imo, especially if you want it to wait somewhere keeping an eye whilst you need to do something else. Next you could try, when you call her too you, make her stay in mid return. Call her gently so she is not bounding to you all excited, then at a certain point next to a marker (ie tuft of grass) give her the stay command. If she does not stay, take her back to the place you commanded her (hence a marker) and make her stay. She might still be a bit too young and excitable for this yet but something you can work on when she is more stead
