Two for price of one

It’s that time of the year again when Daddy Esox is looking to change the shape of Mammy Esox.

I do try avoid fishing know spawning areas where Pike get it on. I tend to fish much deeper water; I know this is a contradiction in itself, whey bother fishing at all? Because I think anglers put there needs above their quarry, it’s a humane thing.

Anyway, some years ago one of the lads get stuck into a mammy pike, big old hen she was, well over twenty pound, I did the honors and landed the fish for him, nothing strange about that I hear ya say, well when we went to remove the Pike from the net we found a jack had also been landed along side her.

The Pike weighted 24lb on the nose, was full of spawn, the wee jack was looking to get his end away with this hen, so much so he never left her side during the whole fight and ended up in the same net as her, randy little b*****d.

Just wondering if any of you pikers came across this before??

Also, I feel in order to protect Pike during spawning their should be a ban during the spawning months, what you think??
