Ian Clark, SAC's DIRECTOR

Recommended Posts

This is advice our Director gave on another site ;) If anyone on this forum wants a reduced membership of SAC's and the benifits of our insurance let me know on this thread. If Ian B agrees?? and we have at least eight members and over of this forum we could have a hunting life club membership that would only cost £20 per individual under 18's get free membership with full benifits!! The insurance covers all fieldsports in the UK.

"As a result of the tragedy on 1st January when a chuild was killed by bull terriers, the police and RSPCA/USPCA have mounted a vindictive campaign against owners of Bull Terriers throughout the country.

It began in Liverpool, but I have now been contacted by owners of these dogs through the length and breadth of Britain and Northern Ireland.

Most of the driving force behind the campaign seems to come from the RSPCA/USPCA, who seem to think they are some kind of roving police force. They are NOT. They are a Charity, nothing more or less, and must not be allowed to get away with what they appear to be trying to do.

The only way to stop this is to use their own tactics against them - and drag them through the courts again and again until their attitude changes. No sensible person would wish to see a genuine animal charity destroyed, because there will always be a need to prevent cruelty to animals - but what they are doing here goes well beyond their remit, and needs to be stopped.

There have been calls for every prosecution by the RSPCA in England to be reviewed, and the SHG is well to the fore in 'hounding' them in this way.

In the meantime, I have checked with our insurers, and they have confirmed in writing, that our insurance policy for members covers any breed, with no exclusions, and our legal insurance includes defence against charges under the Dangerous Dogs Acts.

That means that SACS members can be sure that if they are charged, they will be represented by experts in this specialised type of law.

It is important that anyone who is concerned about something which has happened or is about to happen lets me know IMMEDIATELY, so I can get a fast response arranged.

IN THE MEANTIME, IF YOU ARE VISITED BY THE POLICE OR RSPCA/USPCA, MY ADVICE IS TO REFUSE TO SIGN ANYTHING UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN ADVISED BY A SOLICITOR WHO SPECIALISES IN DANGEROUS DOG ACT LEGISLATION. ALSO, IF YOU ARE CAUTIONED BY POLICE, MY ADVICE IS TO GIVE THEM YOUR NAME, ADDRESS AND DATE OF BIRTH, WHICH IS REQUIRED BY LAW. AFTER THAT, TELL THEM POLITELY BUT FIRMLY THAT, ON THE ADVICE OF YOUR LEGAL ADVISOR, YOU DO NOT WISH TO ANSWER ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS UNTIL YOU HAVE YOUR SOLICITOR PRESENT, AND KEEP TO THAT.

Finally, I understand that there is a group or organisation calling itself 'Deed, not Breed' or something along those lines. It has contacted me anonymously on a number of occasions to enquire about the SACS insurance policy. I know nothing about the group, or its motives, but they have not seen a copy of our policy, and they are therefor NOT in a position to be able to advise anyone on what it covers.

Can I ask that all of you, whether SACS members or not, use this forum to keep us all up to speed with what is going on?"
