Hunting and pest control calendar

Recommended Posts

Personally, most of my hunting is vermin control, and this is carried out whenever I have time to do some and the weather is not too inhospitable.

What I am interested in is if there are any peak times of the year when you will concentrate on a particular species, or when the peaks of activity occur. I'd like to compile a kind of calendar to give me an idea when it is best to concentrate my efforts.

If there are particular times of year, does this relate to breeding cycles, or any other factors (crops etc)?

This thread is aimed at pest species as the game seasons are clearly defined and nicely summarised on this site (UK game seasons)

So I'm looking for something like (and correct me if I'm wrong):

Rabbit: All year, peak September - December (Rabbit are fit and strong after the summer and have recovered from the breeding season)

Fox: All year, peak August - October (to cull weaker young foxes)

rat wants to be in the colder winter months when the catle are in the sheds, rabbit only months with an R in them (january, febuary march, april, september, october, november and december but to be truthfull because of the amount of young I see early on I stop rabbiting in febuary-march time) pigeon ,crow and magpie I do all year round.
