T.F.Student 0
Maybe i'm wrong, but i was sure this stuff had been in a previous topic...Having scoured the last 16 pages i can't find it...could anyone refresh me as to what it is. Looks like ice with the texture of jelly.
Kay 3,709
it looks to thick to be frogspawn, more like a jelly to me, god knows what it is
T.F.Student 0
Cheers Millet...I found Mollys post, which must be the one i remember, its not the same stuff though. The stuff in my first pic is about 9 inches in length and 3inch at its widest...there was more of it as well, this is how it was: We saw 10 buzzards in the area where I found it...so maybe, one was stood in the middle wretching its guts up It is very jelly like FerretLove...if the big fella does know...he aint tellin
ginge2k6 0
Same sort of thing in ditch shitters mink post over in the snaring/trapping section.
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Fish? Ginge; That's fish scales I'm showing, mate. Mink kill. But what a good point! I always thought the top picture ~ Molly's stuff? ~ looked like fish roe. Now, thinking about TF's stuff? Niether of them appears to be frog spawn (I've bred various amphibians and never known any to produce anything quite like this stuff). But I do now wonder if any of it may be Fish based? I once ate some microwaved haddock. As is the way with micro's, a couple of bits got half missed. Result? Pretty much what TF's showing us! Could it be something fishy a buzzard's half digested or something? What ever these things - both of them - are, they're the most mysterious things I've Ever seen, on or off the net! Brilliant really, that so many switched on people can yet be so f*cked up by something presumably quite natural and mundane. Keeps the fun in life
T.F.Student 0
Can see its scales now you and John have mentioned it..I did a google on jelly like substance and it came up with filth I'm downloading a huge document from the MOD at the moment might be lucky. Guest MOLLY
TF...if you look at my bottom picture it looked exactly like yours after a couple of days and rain.....still dont know what it is, but it was on a BOP feeding station MOLL.
T.F.Student 0
Cheers Molly...I knew i'd seen it before on here...I have just been reminded of a time years ago when i had some planters, 4 foot off the ground attached to a wall, the neighbours cats used to use it as a latrine I was planting some seed and as i was moving the soil i found some stuff very similar looking and texture to this...at the time i presumed it was something to do with the cats. Maybe they ate a frog, the spawn swells and as it is undigestable leaves by whichever route. Sure is a puzzler.
Guest MOLLY
You think too much MOLL.
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Check out " Spermataphore " (I Think that's how we spelled it? Might have been 'th', rather than ph?) And where are the BOP boys?
pointer28 1
Looks like clear silicone sealant to me. Have the plumbers been around your way lately? I'm only joking, I'm sure you've already ruled that out.
mooster 1
Very frustrating!Got to get to the bottom of this.Although it looks too solid to be frog spawn i rekon the boggy looking soil holds a clue or two. Not clear if the stuff is attached to the moss in any way...is it a mineral which has soldified as it oozed from underground rather than something deposited on top? Also were there any stock in the area?...Something dropped by a farm reared animal with an embarrasing "leakage" problem?!It reminds me of wallpaper paste but which appears to have turned clear at one end. Any odour? Cant wait to see how long this takes and thanks for the thread. Mooster.
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Hang about, TFS; Can we just establish one thing here, please? Are both the above shots yours? I.e are ye saying ye found both these substances together? Only the top one's nothing like the bottom one. And the bottom one, now I've got over it and looked properly? Yeppers. I'd hazard an educated guess that it is ineed unfertalized frog spawn. See how the photo shows it's single cellular and spherical? We'd expect black dots in the centres. But that's only after the male frogs have showered it with their sperm. If that stuff's come more or less directly from a point of spawning female frog .....
Guest MOLLY
The very 1st picture is TF's, the 2 together are mine. The 2nd one of the two is when it looked exactly the same as TF's picture. Mine was on a fallen dead tree and the ground near it. The 1st picture was when i 1st saw it, the 2nd was a few days later....you can see the basence of black spots, perhaps TF's originally looked like the 1st shot. It is boggy ground near a burn, it is a sheep feild but had been empty of sheep for several weeks. It was on a pathway i always walk so probably saw it from when it 1st appeared. Not attatched to moss, totally randomly scattered from what i could make out. Nothing on top. It does look like wallpaper paste http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=14599 MOLL. T.F.Student 0
Hey...Hey...Hey...the first pic is mine the second pic is yours the third pic is also mine The blob in the first pic is the second blob down on the left in the horseshoe shaped picture. I think your right Molly that the stuff in my first and third pics is the same as your stuff became in your later pics in your previous post. There could of been the eggs as you had in your first pic, but they could of been eaten as the eggs in your later pic seem to have disapeared. My picture was taken way up on the fells, it is wet with pools, rushbeds, moss and Heather etc. In the general area there's streams, ponds and a river in the valley bottom. There will be frogs, but i haven't seen any there. There's also sheep a plenty. I'm leaning to: a Buzzard has eaten a female frog, as it gets digested, the gloop swells as Millet mentioned, this fills up the BOP and it pukes it up. No odour Mooster.
