ammunition storage

Recommended Posts

hopefully my final question regarding FAC :wallbash:

regarding storing ammo am i right in saying that shotgun cartridges can be stored in the cabinet, but firearms ammo must be stored in a seperate location under lock and key.

So for rifle ammo would a small lockable safe be ok? and does it have to be secured to a wall or is it ok bolted to the top of my cabinet which is in turn bolted to the wall?

I'm covered by Grampian police Scotland

The Home Office set the guide lines and different police forces tend to make up there own rules based on the Home Office guide lines.

Shotgun cartridges are to be stored out of plain sight but do not have to be in a gun safe; I have mine in the top of a warm cupboard so there is no chance of them getting damp.

Section One ammo is cover by the same guide lines as a Section One firearms; locked cabinet or gunsafe secure to the fabric of the building and seperate from your firearms.

My tip for the day . . . . for the last three gun safe I have installed I have used silicon on two sides and finished off at the edges just like doing a bath and as long as the gun safe is flush against the wall you'll never move it.

Hi

I've attached the leaflet I referred to when working out the best solution. In the end the following was accepted: A gun safe to the specified standard with a small internal lockable ammo safe. These are large enough to hold around 500 round of .22, your bolt and a moderator.

Hope that helps

Bob
