I've got a saluki whippet greyhound who lives outside. I started him off inside with a kennel outside for daytime. Anyway in January he decided he wanted to sleep out and wouldn't come inside, he was only 4 months. And he's slept out ever since.

if you do get a grey or whippet, get it a coat or heat lamp for the winter. Why because dogs like the above , loose weight in winter if cold, through shivering the weight wont stay on them. a lurcher to lurcher bred pup or dog would be eaiser to keep+tougher, just a thought.!

If you get a smooth coated dog and keep it outside make sure its kept in a draught proof kennel, shed and off the floor they dont do well if they spend all their time trying to keep themselves warm and tend to have stiff joints at an earlier age if kept in cold damp conditions.I look at it from the point of veiw would you like to sleep in the dogs shed if you find it cold and damp so will they. There,s no shame in makeing your dog warm and comfortable.
