STUNTMAN 552
Keepin the cross straight? I have little or no experience of breeding like this , so my question is are the dogs in the end better than just keeping the cross straight? I’ve seen pups and adults that are ¼ bull ¼ DH, ½ whip and every other imaginable cross, but are they any better than dogs bred up traditionally like ½, ¾ , 7/8 with just 2 breeds involved? STUNTMAN 552
Ice I see, do you feel the mix needs to be thinned or is it a speed issue that you would go with a straight sighthound? Quote Link to post

Speed no way she flying machine her sire is the same.Thin down the line so l know what will be in the pups in the future. Just think there is to much in her already to put another lucher over her so l go full breed saulki a working one because think she missing is staying power. If you keep breeding for worker to worker think you have to stay the same sort off breed so you know what IS in your line. Quote Link to post

Snifferboy 659
Thats an interesting thought. I have been debating what to put over mine in a few years time, she has been bred from working lurcher to working lurcher I know what's in her Sire's make up, but only loosely know what's in her Dam's make up. She is meant to be from Merlin and Eve lines on her dams side out of Seagull, but I have no idea what the sire to that was to produce my dogs grand mother, nor to that her mother and so on.... So when I was told she is Beddy Saluki x Deerhound on her Sire's you can work percentages out, but on her dams side who knows? There's Saluki Bedlington Smithfeild Collie Deerhound Whippet and f@ck knows what else!!! And in what percentages? All I know is she is a little belter! With a heart like a lions and an appetite to please, she's put a good few dinner's on the table and she hasn't even had a full season yet as she is only 14 months. So I guess working lurcher to working lurcher does work, so long as what ever your putting over your particular dog/bitch compliments the mix. Like Iceman said if it's lacking staying power add a bit more Saluki in it's make up, I'm not sure if you need full Saluki but I guess that's something that I will learn in time. I guess that how a lot of great dogs have evolved by adding a little bit here and there to try to improve on what you already have. And if you don't like what you have, you don't breed from it, get something different to suit what you need, simples..... Quote Link to post
