Beano1456 14
I have just taken on a game-keeping apprenticeship and I was wondering if anybody else has done the same and/or got any advise or pointers. it is only a small shoot so it is only 3 days a week which then goes up to 5 days during the season as I will beat the two days a week. oh and I have also just bought a black lab and was wondering if i take him with me which i will have to because it wouldn't be fair to leave him in his kennel all day whether i should take him with me and keep him on his lead or keep him in the car ( this is only for when i wont be dealing with large numbers of birds im not that dumb) with the lead option i can keep him close to me and he wont cause havoc around the shoot. as he will only be about six months old i don't want to spoil him by introducing him to birds to young but on the other hand it wouldn't be fair to leave him in a cramped car allay either as he would most likely chew its interior to pieces. so you can see my dilemma. and popping home to let him out isn't an option as the shoot is a half hour drive from my house any info is much appreciated as I only have a basic knowledge from where i have picked things up during the last six seasons as a beater for other shoots in the area cheers Quote Link to post
bullshot 5
Well done for choosing a career in game keeping. I wish had done it years ago. Have you been in touch with a local agri college? they may be able to have you on day release. Also find a local trainer for your lab get get sound advice from him. Quote Link to post

I have not done a course due to the fact I am classed as ancient but my son trained as a gamekeeper at rodbaston College in Staffordshire. So that is why I wish anybody who is starting out in keepering all the very best. Quote Link to post
