Nice little suprise

Well just been to clean out the litter trays and my pregnant Jill has done toilet on the top tier of the hutch which is very unusual ,so as I'm cleaning it up she came out to greet me that's when it all made sense, she gave birth last night. I had Saturday down as the due date so it was a nice suprise to hear the kitts yelping for mum. Haven't looked yet will leave her for a few days, it doesn't sound like a very big litter though! Oh well as long as there all healthy. My Jill looks in perfect condition as she did yesterday is that normal I only ask as this is my first breeding program to add to my stock.

All sounds pretty normal , just make sure she's taking time for herself ie eating well and taking plenty of fluid , I put a bowl of water in during the earlly days to make sure she can get it down quickly ,

its my second time breeding mate and i agree it dont matter how many there are aslong as there all ok.and its a great feeling to hear that sound mate i no what you mean.are you breeding to keep your line of ferret mate or just for the experience?good luck with them mate

Fair play to you JW, ive done the exact same,expected them saturday,gone to feed this evening and heard noise,i opened the nest box counted 10 i think,shut the door and left them to it,this jill is rock steady,never bitten and done a great job last year rearing a litter. Im lucky to have 6 gone includeing the one i keep myself so shouldnt find it to hard to place the others as last years kits are doing very well work wise. Atb with your kits.

I'm breeding to keep my line, they've worked well for me and I wanted to add a few jills to my team. I must admit I have been like the expectant father and fretting over the jill, the missus has been laughing at me. Ive heard so many horror stories it almost put me off breeding.

Thanks for advice Jamie I put a small bowl of egg/ milk mix in and a few strips of liver plus her dry food, but I have noticed that she hasn't really drank a lot of water from the bottle so I will put a bowl of water in as you suggested, I think it may be down to egg/milk mix she may have had all the fluid she needed from that?

My Jill is really good normally, my son went to pick her up Wednesday night and she lunged at him and this is her first litter so I am a bit reluctant to open the nest box and sneak a peek do you think she will be ok with me looking or should I not tempt it

If you look but dont touch it wont do any harm,give her a drink or lump of meat in the run,whilst she is busy just sneak a look. Id a jill last year that was given to me and later found to be in kittle,once she had them she was murder,would grab at every opportunity but once the kits were up and about she settled again.

wish i had ur knowledge of ferrets al , you must be a seasoned ferreter
