secretagentmole 1,701
Decided to take the Daystate out this evening, see how it handled against the BSA. I thought it would be similar conditions, wrong, so wrong, the wind was a lot stronger down there than it was yesterday and I think it was blowing the rabbits back down the holes. I decided to go up the knoll and have a look out. Here is a photo of my path through the nettles... This path has been trampled by me on many occasions so now I can get up to the top without getting stung to blazes! At the top I have a good view as you can see (sorry camera batteries died so all the photos are taken off the phone)... Anyway saw a couple of small kits and managed to get one lined up and dropped it in the damned brambles again. Fed up I decided to go for a walk and saw one 30m down the track, lined the shot up and dropped another kit. At least that one made it into the photo. I made it round the corner but no rabbits in sight so I came back. Climbed the knoll and saw one in the field, 42m in, got a good line on it and fired again! This one flipped up, rolled over, 1 kick and it was dead. Left it in the field as there were others in there and I hoped the thwock of the pellet impact would not scare them too much, I spotted another kit by the fence posts and got a good aim, then it hopped behind the fence post at an angle I could not shoot it. I will get you, this was personal now. It kept looking left and right as it was feeding, but it kept the post between me and it! I waited, patiently, but rabbit was filling it's tummy up. It then moved into the field. Big mistake! I got it lined up nicely at 30m, squeezed the trigger and got the thwock of success. I waited for about half an hour but they rabbits were being blown back in by a rising wind, so I hopped across the ditch and retrieved the pair. Not a lot moved after that, so I went for a final walk round and through the 4 foot high nettles on one of the mega warrens I saw a good sized rabbit, face down and feeding. As I walked it saw me move and looked, so I ducked and slowly moved behind the bale on the track. I came up behind the bale and the rabbit was still in position, 50m in. I got it lined up, then it turned it's back on me, all I could see was it's behind. I waited again, it turned to the left, I got on the kill zone and fired, rolled over, twitched and expired. So 2 in the ditch and 4 retrieved. not a bad evening! Quote Link to post
