Ron Weasley 83
Occassionally we all have an off day. Seems today it was my turn. Arrived a a local permission at about 7am. At this place, I always have the gun loaded as soon as I enter the drive way, as there is more often than not, a bunny or two that are shootable from the passenger window. This time the was no bunny, but a woody, which I duly missed, and managed to scare everything else off. Car parked, and there was a couple of rabbits out grazing on the far side of the house. Chose the closest one, and missed that. About 10 minutes passed and I dropped a rook from a tall tree. It fell, but never hit the ground! I couldn't spot it in the foilage, but I am certain it was a clean shot. A few minutes after that I bagged a jackdaw from the same tree. It flew out of the tree, into one a bit closer to me, and then after about 5 seconds dropped stone dead - the .177 FX had connected with the base of it's skull!! Amazing survival instinct. Had a wander up meadow, and dropped another rook from a tree just the other side of a deep ditch. Now I watched this one fall, and heard the thud as it hit the ground. I was determined to claim it for the photo, so I de-cocked the ultra and laid it down, and set about finding a place to cross the ditch. The banks are very steep, and there's about 4 inches of water in the ditch. After soaking my legs and getting stung several times, I was over, but I was f**ked if I could find the rook!! Still, my boots had been given their first real test and had passed with flying colours! So with wet trousers (no funny comments please!) I decided to call it a day. Anyway, here's the embarrassing picture of my only retrieved kill. Quote Link to post

Ron Weasley 83
Definitely beats sitting in front of my laptop, which is what I would have been doing if not out with the rifle. And yes Bill, I'm very happy with my boots! Picked up a pair of Karrimor walking boots from TK Maxx in January for about £40 - seen the same ones in Millets for £120. So fa r, so good! Thanks for your replies fellas. May you all shoot with more competence than I from now on. Quote Link to post
