whip x grey 276 Posted May 7, 2011 Report Share Posted May 7, 2011 its a good rule off thumb cat like feet but if greyhound run on sand,,,,,the rule off thumb,,,,,is gone,,,,,,,,ull find wrist problems and broken legs are the norm,,,,,,,for them now me as a whip x grey racer,,,,,,,dew claws are almost a must to have off as pup,s due to them still running hard summer ground ( grass with no chance off rain ) the further south the harder the ground can be where greyhounds dont bother,,,,as thats not main problem,,,,they have to bother with anymore,,,,,,,,iam not saying there not tough at what they do,,,,as in some events,,,,and there speed,,,,they do take it to the next level,,,,,breaking barriers,,,,,going beyond there bodys cappabillite,,,,when it comes too speed,,,,, ( when i was a young boy,,,,they also ran summer hard tracks,,,,grass /mud and straw,,,,,i never got the idea off straw,,,,as there was hardly none on track,,,,,just mudd and stones showing threw,,,on the old flapping tracks ,,,, my old man use to race whippets at thorton,,,,when i was 5yearold,,,,the prick didnt get the bus,,,,he made me walk 4/5 miles,,,,,,too save 10p on bus fair,,,,so he could buy bottle off ironbrew,,,,for the day,,,,, :laugh: money was tight then,,,,,,but i rember thorton being quite muddy and straw,,,,,,but straw was pushed to the side,,,,lol espeailly if they had a flood,,,,,,ive heard off alot off whippets and greyhounds jacking when they ran into the straw,,,,,,must have confused them abit, not all very few and far between ,,,,,,,,good times thou,,,,,,i was brought up by the scroff off the neck,,,,, ,,,,,,made me the man iam 2day if i remeber rightly,,,,as it was over 30year+ ,,,,,,thorton flapping track had straw up home straight,,,,,i cant remeber down 1st straight,,,,,all flapping tracks were diffrent then,,,,,there was no rule to thumb,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,on track contions,,,,,,,good times,,,,,we will never see that ammount off running dogs again,,,,,greys/whips or lurcher,s ,,,,,they were the days and i only remeber the tail end off the good times,,, Quote Link to post
