Annmarie09 5
My lurcher broke the end off her canine when she was in at the vets. The vet gave me three choices - go to specialist down in the borders for root canal at a cost of about £1000, have the tooth removed under anaesthetic, or wait and see if it causes any pain or decays and then have it out if it does. I went for the last option because I don't like my dogs going under anaesthetic unless necessary, and so far ( a year later) it's still fine. However, it will depend on how much of the nerve is exposed. If it's painful you'll need to have the tooth removed. I didn't cost the op to have the tooth removed as the insurance would have covered it anyway, but anaesthetics are expensive so I'd guess at around £150 to £200 at least. I'm with Pet Plan and my vet reckoned they would also pay for the root canal, but I don't think it's fair to put a dog through that for purely cosmetic reasons.
