skycat 6,174
When you say 'strained', did you get a veterinary diagnosis or did you just see the hock joint swell up and cause pain? Not trying to be funny or anything, but the hock is a very complex joint so you'd need to know exactly what the dog did to know what treatment and exercise programme to follow. If you are talking about a joint sprain where the ligaments and or tendons were involved, then 3 months on the lead with no jumping is about right. Coupled with massage with something like Zheng Gu Shui (liniment specially for tendons/ligaments), physiotherapy which would involve gentle flexing of the joint: note the word GENTLE so that it heals being able to move, not fixed in one position. If a joint is fixed in one position whilst healing the tendons and ligaments can shrink, not allowing full range of movement once the dog starts exercising properly again. A bad sprain can take months and months to heal and often leaves the joint weaker than it was before the injury.
