gnipper 6,866
I`ve ferreted a lot of sand burrows, and they can be a nightmare, They are not all the same and some can be fine. Tend to find that the more vegetation in the sandy ground ,the better it is, seems to be more stable, The only ferret I have ever lost whilst working was in sand. Gutted me and I avoid this type of work if I can ATB Same here, only ever lost one, a brilliant worker and it was on a massive sand bank. I was only a kid out on me own and was digging massive holes everywhere trying to find her . Quote Link to post
whin 463
fereted sand dunes sandy areas best way is to net up , then let it settle then pile ferrets in good workers, get what bolts and if the ferret pops out get him ,box him, no piont in hanging about , fereted them since a youngster had some good days and big bags of rabbs as most was on nature reserves great rabbiting land ,you need to know your ferrets and your own capabilities ,digging is best left for last resort unless easy digging ,had thirty years along the beaches etc lost ferrets and got them back days later months but no big deal ,that was before locators were popular ,caut 27 in 2 hours on a good area near gullane moving at one time ,hares 2 , done sand qaurrys two if you have decent working ferrets you soon get the rabbits out Quote Link to post
