strike

Recommended Posts

had my pup out about 3-4 times now only giving 2-3 slips each time as dont want to break her heart. she is running great on lamp watching beem, she is also doing good while mooching knocking loads of rabbits out the bushes. but she just isnt striking. she is getting right behind the rabbits but not striking them. has anyone else had this problem, will it just happen or is it just one of these problems you get with some dogs.

similar problem with my dog - she got better with age, shes now much better in the day but still misses strikes at night - shes got the speed, she's all over them and got much better at choosing the right lines and pushing them out into the field. also if shes chasing my other dog whoes 18 months younger she bowls him over and hes got 6kgs on her! id be interested to see if anyones got any tips on improving the strike, or do some dogs just never get it?

try it on some daft summer rabbits july, ones that have never seen a lamp. Get as close to the rabbit as you can(squatter), so the dog is right over it.Make sure that your dog is facing arse end to the rabbit, not face or side on.As the rabbit starts to move then loose the dog, it should strike right on to it. All you do with long slips is learn it to look down beam, thats ok but with green dogs they will miss alot, because they are over trying.! You got get as close as you can to the rabbit to get a catch, try it
