shooting.123 7 Posted March 9, 2011 Report Share Posted March 9, 2011 hi all looking at getting into stalking (mole trapper for a living) i have got 1000s of acres to shoot on some living with deer just got my ticket back for my 243 just a few questions really can you sell the meat to a game dealer ? is it a good idear to go on a corse? how much do the courses cost what do you do on them ? stav#69 0 Posted March 9, 2011 Report Share Posted March 9, 2011 hi, i,ve just done dsc1 with no deer stalking experence and learnt alot (and passed) as did afew of the old hands aswell.this allows you to sell to a game dealer. cost was £245.00 i,m glad i did the course but i know i,ve got a hell of alot more to learn out in the field. stav Quote Link to post

There are other aspects such as shooting saftey and meat hygiene all of which will be of benifit to you. You will hear folk say the courses are no use and you wont learn anything, but seems the folk I have met have never done a course so hard to see how they would know that. Yes they are expensive and yes it can be a pain to do them, but the way things go in this world ..how long till they are mandatory? If they become so you can bet the price rockets. At present the only way you can sell deer is either by a trained hunter with the relevant meat hygiene qualification does the gralloch with you and witnesses the kill....for example the deer my have been exhibiting behaviour that is unusal which could indicate there was something wrong with it. Or you can take the deer to the dealer but retain the 'pluck'for the dealer to inspect. He will then declare it fit....but you wont get anywhere near as much cash off him for that. Do you have a condition for your .243 on your ticket? Quote Link to post
