HoraceM 0
I'm thinking of getting an add-on that will fit my FAC Rapid and HMR, and all the chat about the Pulsar Challenger kit mostly says how good it is but everyone seems to say to get the n1000ap illuminator as well. The Pulsar lamp (part 805) is quoted as the same power (100mw), has a variable beam from spot to flood, and would work out cheaper, but never gets a mention. As a newby to this, am I missing something or what? Can anyone help. Cheers ATB HoraceM
sako 23
I also am a newbe as you say but I have used a lamp and IR filter to give the extra illumination. It will work no problem but first you need to ask yourself: Do you have the lamp on the gun or does someone else hold the lamp for you? If someone else is holding the lamp they'll also need a nv mono or they wont know where to point the lamp for you to shoot. If you have the lamp mounted on the gun, go out for the night and instead of lamping and spotting the target then looking through your scope, try just looking through your scope all night to spot and find your target. Not only is this hard it's extemely dangerous swinging a loaded gun around. It is posible to look through the mono with one hand and the lamp with filter in the other to scan and then mount the mono to the gun to shoot but this does take a little time and sometimes the time taken would have been to get off the shot. I've got a lamp on top of my scope with the hinged filters wich are extremely quick to change from white to colour but still sometimes make a clicking sound when you snap them shut, this click could spook the rabbit or fox. I dont use the IR filter on the lamp I just occasionally use this for sometimes spotting with the white at great distance then change to say red get closer then the fox tends to stand and look at the lamp again for me to take the shot. If you have say a N1000 and the lamp on the scope and the add on you simply flash the lamp without stopping, then lamp off N1000 and mono on. You know roughly where to start looking to take aim and take your shot. It's easy to switch a n1000 on and off and adjust the brightness of it with your left hand while looking through your scope. I say get one it's much easier than messing with the lamp unless you use two lamps which is what I've done in the past. If you are using an add on you will need extra illumination unless you are shooting rabbits on the grass verges of a floodlit tesco car park!
HoraceM 0
Thanks for that, I think I may have worded my first note a bit better. What I am thinking of is to possibly get the Pulasr kit as an add-on to my dayscope and my question was meant to ask whether the Pulsar higher power lamp - 100mw illuminator - was as good as the NVScopes one, the n1000ap From other advice I've been given it seems the Pulsar on is an LED source and the N100 is an IR laser. Apparently these give a much stronger light source, but are more expensive, for the Pulsar NV monocular which fits to the eyepiece of the 'scope. Either of these illuminators fit to the NV kit. sako 23
Ah gottcha I assumed pulsar was a lamp! What they haven't told you is the lasers are harmful to the human eye whereas the led's are eye safe. What distances are you hoping to shoot?
HoraceM 0
As I haven't done this before, I can only go on what I see in daylight, and that is that there are bunnies that would be within about 50-60 yards from some decent resting / hiding places (a disused caravan etc) so I think that would be about it for the Rapid, but obviously with the HMR the distances could be longer, but potentially more difficult with regard to accuracy and maintaining safe shooting etc. but either way no more than 100yards. camo304 3
Like i told you on the bbs for those ranges you need the Laser job done, Anything to do with NV ain't cheap
HoraceM 0
Yes, I can see that as usual you get what you pay for, so it looks like it'll be the Pulsar kit but with the n1000ap..... booo hooo! I'm at the Shooting Show on Sunday - I don't suppose they'll be giving many away there as prizes? H.
sako 23
Camo good advice again! N1000 job done! But personally I prefer my led illuminator out to just about 100yrds then the N1000 gets switched on after. Unless the mono's on the gun and then I've got no choice I have to use the N1000 at all distances because the mono IR illuminator is blocked by the scope and lamp. pestcontrol121 11
Do you want to buy mine I want one of them laserluch's! N1000 variable 3 weeks old bargain four fiths of the price! For the price of the laserluchs ir laser illuminator at around £450 you will be disappointed yes it might be eye safe but that's about it, you are using a firearm which does a lot more damage than an ir laser so do the same thing , don't point it at anyone and when you have finished with it take the battery out, job done Edited February 23, 2011 by pestcontrol121
sako 23
Totally get your point! I was just thinking about damaging the livestock's eyes when sacanning all the time so I liked the thought of the eye safe option, but if it's not as powerful as an N1000 then that's a big no no. I wouldn't be happy spending that much then finding out it was rubbish and wasn't up to the job. N1000 is now not for sale!!!
