Ballywalter Game & Country Living Fair

Recommended Posts

The Terrier & Lurcher events at the Ballywalter Game & Country Living Fair will take place on their tradition day of Sunday 1st May.

Johnny Dicker has been in touch to ask since we have now added an extra day to Ballywalter could we change our dog show to the Saturday. Unfortunately, even if considered desirable this is simply not possible at this atage of our planning cycle as the Terrier & Lurcher events at our event are already part of an overall show schedule.

Ballywalter is a small estate with few open areas adjacent to the main fair site and I have indicated to him that we have planned to use the terrier & lurcher car parking area as a holding/assemby area for our horse drawn vehicle display on the Saturday. This is an integral part of our fair opening ceremony and some of the Victorian attractions including a play planned for the Saturday. As there is a horse show on the Monday we cannot get the carriages on Sunday.

That said even if we could move the carriages, a move at this stage would prove difficult as the Sunday has been the traditional terrier & lurcher day at Ballywalter since 2000 and the change from the Sunday could possibly inconvenience the several hundred regular competitors at Ballywalter ( most of them from NI who would not be going to Johnny's show) and I would have to seek their views which I will this year. We also have had plans in place for two new terrier & lurcher events on the Sunday since July 2010 including having the date agreed with our sponsors and with www.fieldsportschannel.tv for coverage of these new events.

I have said to Johnny that I will support his event as I did last year and help promote it by advertising it in the magazine both hard copy and FREE to READ online at www.countrysportsandcountrylife.com - thus , as last year, people will know about both events and can make their choice. We had a good crowd last year and I hear Johnny also had a good crowd so it would appear that the events were far enough apart not to do any real damage to each other. And as I say it would appear this clash has been going on from 2000.
