Grass Snake

Recommended Posts

This place is great for snakes, there's loads of grass snakes and the odd adder. Summer time there are loads basking in the warm sheltered areas around the lake that does not get fished, no interference and plenty of voles mice etc. Pete the bailiff has seen up to 15 in just a short walk there, first time I have seen one there though. As a nipper I used to catch them on the grass bankings close to where I lived north of sheffield and sell them to the pet shops, I got £2 each then, that was almost 40 years ago though.

It was nice to see one today though, probably about 3- 3.5 foot long, I put it down when it hissed, that means it was pissed with me I guess.

Lucky you, i would have love to have been able to find these when i was a kid still would now, if they are by the lakes chances are its the frogs they are after they bloody love them, i think thats one of the reasons they never took off in captivity as it was hard to get them onto rodents, ive never kept one my self though so could be wrong lol,

changing the subject i just read your article "ferreting, a life long passion" was a great read mate and has given me the kick up the arse i need to take up the sport :victory:
