Tay 24/01/2011

Recommended Posts

Having lived on the Tay for nearly 10 years now, I felt it was time to give the local inhabitants some earache...

Now I am am not a wildfowler, but I do enjoy the occasional jaunt, when freinds, with more experience, offer to act as chaperone.

Also, I own lurchers not retrievers, so I need folk with suitable dogs as guides.

I am fortunate enough to have a boat, so we decided to launch at Newburgh and sail to the islands on the Northside, towards Dundee.

We were in the water by about 3.15 pm, and stuff was allready moving about.

I had received advice from an experienced wildfowler, and then was lucky enough to bump in to Donald Muir as I was launching the Boat. So felt we had enough local gen to stand a chance.

We set the boat in the reeds and camo'd up as best we could. Whilst it was just turning dark, a shot desturbed the sitting ducks and we had a small flight of Mallard overhead. My colleague shot two for two. This was to be the only action we saw.

I have a feeling it was down to our location. Whatching the flight lines gave us a much better understanding of where we should have been.

We were out of the water for 7.00pm

Many thanks for local help and advice, its something I will be putting the effort in to next year.

I have to say i really enjoyed outing, may even venture out again this week if conditions are right.

A good write up and pictures you will have to let us know if you get out again.

I have just been looking at where you set off from and to where you roughly went on google maps (because I am not clued up on Scotland :icon_redface: ) It looks very nice around there.

Thanks as I enjoy listening/learning how other folk get on wildfowling.

I was supposed to be going to the wash tomorrow but have backed out as I developed Bronchitis a couple of weeks ago and am still on antibiotics as I cant get rid of it
