AnthroHunter 0
My friend was telling me about a hunt in went to see last year and told me about "level packs". I just wondered how important is it for hounds to look similar and the pack in general to be "level"? Hope this doesnt sound too newbish just trying to learn as much as I can and get involved in Hunting. Quote Link to post
JR Yipp 111
you want houds to cross their country at roughly the same rate. be it drawing or running. this has alot to do with the level of the pack. Quote Link to post
Coyotehunter 689
The term a "Level Pack'' isn't so much as how they look and more about how they hunt and hunt up together, yes it is nice to have all your doghounds around the same size and all your bitches around the same size but its much more about the hounds hunting as a pack, you can have all that and the pack strung out like a string of pearls, to me thats not a level pack doesn't matter how much they look alike, there's an old saying a hound can only go as fast as his nose, so you have a small bitch with a very good nose and a large bitch with a very average nose, which do you thinks going to be the fastest and most accurate ? i think its more about judging scenting abillitiy than anything else, it certainly is out here where we can have 20/30 degreed temperature swings in 24hrs, to look at our pack you wouldn't nessasarily say its a level pack to look at, i have pure English, pure American and cross breds of both breeds but they hunt level. Just my Humble opinion , good hunting Quote Link to post
