paulk73 151
after yesterdays success, thought id have a little wander round the plots to see if we could pick anything up. first of all we had a look round the top shed. not a sausage. no marks off the dog. then we had a walk down to the plastic sheets, that was being used as a larder yesterday. again no interest was shown round the sheets, but i decided to lift them, and have a little look. there was quite a big pile of bread here yesterday but today there wasnt even a trace of it. next eli headed over to the compost bin where we bolted a rat yesterday, but after a quick sniff, he decided that no-one was home. i was just letting eli do his own thing casting about, when he stopped at a pile of brocken flagstones, on 1 side of the pile was a compost heap that was boxed in by pallets, there was also a couple of doors and some timber scattered about. eli was marking strongly around the bottom of the pile of flaggs, but not fancying moving all the concrete, i started the smoker and put the hose in a gap at the bottom. i gave it a good blast, and then let it tick over and stood back to watch, eli was belting about all round the pile, then i noticed a head pop out halfway up the pile then disappear again. i moved the hose to the hole where i saw the head, and watched the bottom holes, i was about to turn the smoker off when i noticed a rat sat right on top of the pile, trying to work out its next move, as i shouted to eli, it decided on heading down the pile, eli caught sight of the movement, and grabbed it as it made it way off the pile. as eli was dealing with this one a small rat shot out of the bottom of the pile and under a shed. eli then went round to the compost heap and was scratching at an old door, i moved this to find a burrow leading deep into the rotting compost, i got the smoker hose and placed it into the burrow entrance, almost straight away an adult rat shot out, and headed for the pile of flags, but was stopped by eli. there was no more marking from eli. so we moved off eli marked a pile of pitch fibre roof sheets, and i began moving them but caught sight of a rat fleeing escaping through the brambles behind some fencing, totally missed by eli. well you cant win em all. atb Quote Link to post
