Rabbithunter 456
since i am bored out my skull i looked back through my ferreting diary, and reflected on some of my best day's. Although no big bag's were scored they were still fully enjoyed day's. I remember one day like it yesterday. I had been ferreting the area for a few weekend's scoring 1 or 2 rabbit's. At the time i was travelling on a moped Anyway there was a fairly big set (or at the time it seemed like a big set) that i had been wanting to do, but wanted longnets to do it with, so when i got a couple of net's given from my mate i thought now's the time to give it a go.. I set off one morning on my moped, the ground was about 10 miles away and it seemed to take hours to arrive on my 30MPH moped When i got there, i collared up the ferret's, untied the spade from the rack on the back of my moped and set off to this set. I put a 30yard net on one side and a 10 yard net on the other where i had seen rabbits bolting previously. I also laid a few purse nets here and there I entered a polecat jill and an albino jill, after about five minutes a rabbit bolted and hit my 10 yard net - the first rabbit i ever caught in a stop net. After about another half hour or so waiting i checked the location of the ferrets, as i walked along the dyke i noticed a rabbit sat quietly in a purse net, a "silent bolter" as i would call them years back. I got that out the net and killed it, re-set the net. The albino came out so i put her back into the box. I was on one side of the dyke when i heard a squeal. I looked through the hedge and seen a rabbit in the net, with the ferret on it. I ran round the dyke and picked them both up. I killed the rabbit and re-boxed the ferret. I headed back to the bike to leave the rabbits somewhere, so it was less to carry, on the way back i noticed a good set that was well kicked out. there was a lot of hole's so i just laid a few nets on the likely bolt hole's. I used the albino on this set, and after 15 minutes i heard nothing, i got the albino out and re-boxed her, when i jumped back over the fence inoticed a net dragged down the hole, i assumed the ferret had cam out and snagged it on the collar and dragged it back in. To my delight it was a rabbit that had got back netted. at this time, i was carrying a ferret box, spade, bag of nets, a bucket with the longnets in, pegs for the longnets and four bunnys. at 16years old this was a fair haul So i killed that rabbit and lifted the nets and headed back to the bike, i hid the rabbits behind a hedge and left my longnets there aswell. I peered into another field and noticed a few rabbits sitting, so i went over and found the set, and netted up. No report for about 15 minutes, seen polecat walking down the dyke so i got over and got her, there was a rabbit sat in my net. Number five. I nipped back to my drop off point and left this rabbit there aswell. I walked a bit further and found a nice field set of about 20 hole's. I netted up and put the polecat jill in, she bolted a rabbit within five minutes, she surfaced and i put her back in the box, she scrambled out the box before i closed the lid and wandered back down to the set, so i let her go back in, and she bolted another rabbit. i was chuffed with myself unfortuneatly i dont have a picture of this day on the computer, but this was my first day ferreting that i caught more than 2 rabbits on my own.
