Cleaning sound mod

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I was wondering what you use to clean your sound mods, as I have a SAK for my HMR, and with all things firearms, I'm a clean freak.

I've tried fairly liquid, soap flakes and washing powder, the latter seems to eat the aluminium as it's pretty bright after a soak in that being an alkali, (where the aluminium has been eaten from the flame cutting of the hot gases) fairy dosen't seem do do much and soap flaes similarly clean the mod ish, but there's still a bit left on, the powder residue is kinda greasy, but I don't want to use a solvent as I want to be able to dry the mod, so a water based solution would be ideal, plus I can was the crub off and not get all over my hands and umpteen different cloths..... so what do you guys use?

Hi mate will start with my .22lr,,,,SAK undue take out baffle put case and end screw in hot soapy water and scrub with bottle brush, baffle use cloth sprayed with G4 powder cleaner wipe over outside and then in each hole with the rag then in the hot soapy water scrub with bottle brush then a complete dry then all inerds wiped over with silicon cloth.

.17 HMR Whisper made entirely from Delrin unscrew cap and baffle and cap come away as 1 hot soapy water scrub with bottle brush dry reasemble and reuse.

.17HMR Ace Ultra undo cap shake out all small baffles drop baffles into powder cleaner (Hopes powder cleaner) leave over night,,inner tube pull out clean with G4 spray powder cleaner,,light oil on "O" ring ,,outer case hot soapy water and bottle brush all dried reasemble all little baffles light spray with WD40 put back in case use rod to reasemble ready for use.

.223 T4 Reflex,,take of barrel bush,, stick mod in hot soapy water for about hour to soften up any crud blow out with air line put in oven at 60 Deg gas mark 1-2 i think for 20 mins give a good shake (mod that is lol) if no water comes out spray WD-40 in both ends (good spray) shake that out then put small tube on WD-40 nozzle at spray individual baffle.

would just add T4 is 7 yrs old and done this since new and NO SIGNS OF RUST.

thats what i mate my friend and have done for years.

oh right, I was trying to stay away from the solvent route as I just wanted to be able to wash the mod off in water and let it dry....., the other thing I found works ok is Flash all purpose cleaner I just take the mod apart and dump it all in a bucket with the cleaner solution and leave it for 15 mins 1/2 hr or so then clean with a bottle brush and toothbrush, I just end up with a fine residue that seems glued on it dosen't rub off, or affect how it goes back together I was just wonderin' if anyone had any other methods

that's a fairly involved cleaning regime you've got there!

Have you considered using an ultrasonic bath like the ones used by tatooists/dentists ? simply unscrew the moderator and pop it in,after the relevant time period has passed take it out and allow it to dry naturally then a very light wipe over with an oily rag.....i think the only thing that may need a little fine tuning is the soloution you use....atb
